Folklore, defined as the traditional beliefs, customs, and stories of a community, informs us of deeply held truths in various cultures and communities.
As J. R. R. Tolkien wrote in his infamous series, Lord of the Rings,“Pay heed to the tales of old wives. It may well be that they alone keep in memory what it was once needful for the wise to know.”
Folklore is not stagnant, a thing exiled to the past, it is a timeless, dynamic and ever-changing narrative pertinent to contemporary existence. All of the artists in Lore reimagine traditional tales or create entirely new myths based on their present day beliefs or family traditions.
